Weekend Getaway

Justin and I spent this past weekend in Glenrose. We rented a little cabin for Friday and Saturday nights. We had a wonderful weekend relaxing together. We went fishing (I caught two catfish and Justin caught two minnows..haha), tubing, ate at one of Texas Monthly's highest ranked barbeque joints, and visited historic downtown Glenrose. Here are a few pictures of our trip.

Oh, and to keep you up to date, I ran 6 miles with the team last night in at least 95 degree weather...I think that is crazier than running in the rain last week :) I am paying the price today however, with a big headache.

Running in the Rain

It has been a wet week here in Dallas. After work today, it was not raining although the sky looked threatening. I met my training group for a 6 mile run on Katy trail. We ran about 5 of those 6 miles in the rain. We were soaked by the end...but our coach always tells us...you never know what the weather will be on your event day. To which I like to respond, the first 5K I signed up for was the Cowtown 5K in Fort Worth. I trained for about 12 weeks. I woke up that morning to drive over to Fort Worth and run 3.1 miles and it was pouring rain. Literally, it was coming down in sheets. So I went back to bed and registered for another race about two weeks later. Moral of the story, you never know what the weather will be on event day but you can control where you will be on event day. But in all seriousness, if it had been raining on my marathon day in Phoenix (an unlikely scenario), I probably would have run anyway.

If you have had enough about running already, you should probably quit reading now b/c it only gets worse from here.

I got new running shoes this past weekend. When you buy running shoes for training, you just have to get the best fit and style for you so you have no choice on color. I lucked out this time, my new shoes are white, black, and pink. They are called Brooks Ghost which I think is a pretty cool name. I had been having trouble with pain on the outside of my feet during and after my runs. I told the guy fitting me this and he watched me walk and recommended a different type of shoe. Evidently, the pair I was recommended last time were for people that roll their feet inward while running. I do not. So the shoes were pushing me too far out and causing the pain. I like the new pair so far and my feet are feeling better. They had been tender all the time for awhile but are now getting better.

Fishing and Rangers

Justin and I went fishing this evening. We caught 9 fish...which isn't the record for this spot. One night we caught over 15. All of the catches have been large mouth bass except for one crappie and one perch. Here are some pictures that show just how much I like to touch the fish. Haha...I did touch the scales and tail of some tonight.

We had a nice weekend overall. We got to go to the Ranger's game Friday night and sit in the EY suite. It was nice weather and we had a fun time although the Ranger's lost badly. Then Saturday night, we watched the Cowboy's and saw Michael Phelps win his 8th gold. I am watching the women's gymnastics event finals now and tweaking my blog formatting.

New Blog Design

Last night I had a blog designing, gymnastics watching party all by myself while Justin played volleyball for literally 5 hours. My blog turned out nicely I think :) I have a few more things I want to add but it is mostly done. Let me know if the formatting doesn't show up correctly on your screen. I have a wide screen laptop and it looks good on mine. But if it doesn't look good on other screen sizes...I will try to adjust the template.

The gymnastics turned out not so nicely...but I guess we should be happy with silver.

I also did my Kathie Smith lower body sculpting workout. I knew this 12 minute workout was a killer. I remember being a little sore every time I do it even if I do it consistently. Well, I haven't done it in a long time. But I figured my legs were still strong from running. I was wrong. I can barely walk today. I am trying to build up my leg strength through this video and hill training so I will be ready for the California hills in November. I have more running and training stories...our season started a couple of weeks ago...but I won't bore you to much with the details of my salt intake during long runs :)Just know that I think I figured out a way to run in the Texas heat and humidity for over 5 miles without having a headache for the rest of the day and I am VERY excited about it! It worked last week and I will test it again this week to make sure it wasn't a fluke.
